The project will be based at Moss Lane East, on the corner of the Oxford Road/Wilmslow Road corridor and at the heart of the university district.
The site is currently a derelict car park with disused manufacturing buildings. The proposal provides 416 en-suite bedrooms arranged in clusters of between four and six, with a shared common room and kitchen per cluster.
The proposed building will also comprise an entrance/reception area, office, games room, laundry, plant areas and bin stores, as well as forming a private and secure internal courtyard with 15 parking spaces and communal amenity space.
Russ Worthington, development director at Worthington’s said: “We’re delighted to have gained permission and hope to start on site early in the New Year. Without the help and support of Manchester City Council and local ward members, this scheme would not have been possible and would have continued to be an underutilised area of Manchester city centre.”
