Marcus Worthington & co has proved a knock-out success for a local boxing club.

Larches and Savick BC, Preston, raised almost £10,000 thanks to a special night we supported.

The ‘Dinner at the Ringside’ event at Park Hall Hotel attracted an audience of 300 and all proceeds from the night, which featured 12 three-round bouts between fighters from the club, will go towards covering running costs and the purchase of new equipment.

Club chairman, Joe Kilshaw, said: “It was a great night - probably the best we’ve ever organised - and the money will help to keep us going for the next couple of years. We are indebted to Marcus Worthington & Co for fantastic on-going support and it was great to see so many local people turn up to back our efforts.”

The club, which now boasts more than 300 members, including one national champion, first opened its door in June 2002. It has been hailed a huge success, not least from the fact that since its formation crime in the area has fallen by 75 per cent.

Peter Crook, a director at Marcus Worthington & Co, added: “We are proud to support Larches and Savick ABC in whatever way we can. It is great to see a project like this having such a positive impact on the local community and to be able to help them raise just short of 10,000 through one event is very satisfying."
